WE THINK MIDLETON SCHOOL IS A PRETTY SPECIAL PLACE TO WORK…

What we are looking for

At Midleton School, we pride ourselves on our team of teachers. Among our staff you will find a mix of native-English and non-native bilingual speakers, and while they may come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, each one of them is enthusiastic, professional, and qualified for the job.

Prospective teachers should be in possession of an accredited TEFL qualification -minimum of 100 hours of coursework and training; 6 hours of observed lessons; externally validated- such as CELTA, DELTA, and CertTESOL at the time of application while non-native English speakers should also have certification of a C2 level in English -Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; IELTS (8 and above)-.

Previous experience working as an ESL teacher, though not essential, would be an advantage.

What we offer

Central to our school’s success is our team of teachers. Every member of staff works hard to maintain the positive and friendly work environment you will experience upon joining the Midleton School team.

As part of this team, you will receive a competitive salary, reflecting your qualifications and experience, and have paid holidays at Christmas and Easter, as well as any local and national holidays.

As part of our evening teaching staff, you will receive a block schedule, having up to 24 contact hours per week. Every effort is made to ensure that you have as few level changes as possible and you may find your schedule consists of a mix of kids, teen, and adult classes.

Below you will find an example of one possible evening schedule.

Teachers are expected to arrive to work 15 minutes before the start of their first class, and should also be available for staff meetings and training sessions held throughout the academic year. The Director of Studies will carry out in-class observations each trimester, and teachers are required to keep a written/electronic record of their lesson plans..

About us

Midleton School opened its doors to its first students in 2003. Founded by Óscar Porras, the school has continued to grow year on year, going from thirty-something students in its first year of business to more than 800 registered students during the last academic course.

The success of our academy can be attributed to three key factors which, together, help make Midleton School stand out from its competitors.

The first being our class sizes. By offering reduced groups with a maximum of six students per class, our learners benefit from a greater amount of speaking practice while also receiving more specialized, individual attention from the teacher.

Then, there is the fun factor. We believe that learning a language should be an enjoyable experience for all those involved. Our teachers are encouraged to incorporate their own personality and flare into each lesson with the aim of achieving a positive learning environment.

The last of these key factors is what we call the personal or familiar touch. Many of our students and their family members have been studying with us since our early days, and as our academy has grown, so too have they. They have become an extension of the Midleton School family and the day on which we forget their names, what they have studied, or who their brother or sister is, is the day when we will have to consider limiting our numbers.
